Is there anything Hello Kitty can’t do? Since her creation way back in 1974, the cuddly cartoon has been on TV, depicted in fashion designs, and she’s even made an album. The list is long, and it’s made her a serious icon. Now, Hello Kitty and her creators, Sanrio, are taking things to a new level: a Hello Kitty café!
The first-ever Hello Kitty Grand Café will open in Irvine, California on September 14. According to a press release from Sanrio, it’s the “first and only permanent café in the U.S. featuring dual experiential spaces — a fast casual café setting open to the public and a separate private room for reservation-only afternoon tea program and cocktail service.” That means if you want to pop in and grab a cup of coffee — they have several flavors for $6 a cup — and some mini donuts, you can head into the café itself, which seats 12 people.
For special events, you can make a reservation at the Bow Room, a “reservations-only pink oasis with sleek Hello Kitty-branded fixtures.” It features tea service during the day, which includes yummy salads, fruit, croissants, and more, and turns into a 21+ cocktail bar at night. Basically, it’s the ideal spot for Hello Kitty fans both young and old, and a cute way to make your coffee run feel extra special.
According to the Los Angeles Times, there are Sanrio-centric cafés all over the world, and a few other Hello Kitty-themed spots in the United States: a pop-up in San Diego, mini-cafés in Rancho Cucamonga and San Jose, and two café trucks too. Apparently, Hello Kitty has her sights beyond being a pop culture icon; she’s ready to take on cuisine too.
The new café itself is, unsurprisingly, totally adorable. Delish has pics of the space, which features lots of pink (of course!) and even some cameos from Hello Kitty’s pals like Keroppi the frog, in mini-cake form. Hello Kitty herself can be spotted on the walls, on the dishware, in special artwork created just for the location, and even as an ice cube! To say that the Hello Kitty Grand Café is Instagram bait is a massive understatement — the place is primed for IG, with its themed décor and all that pink. We have a feeling the Hello Kitty Grand Café is going to be the new must-stop destination for an Insta snap, so start planning your outfit and pose now!
